Unmasked rioter carries Confederate flag into White House

For the past 4 years, Trump supporters have defended the 45th president no matter how bizarre his behavior became. They looked the other way and empowered a deranged lunatic to run roughshod as he pretended to govern the nation. Now it seems the chickens have come home to roost. The lawlessness that was condemned when it pertained to BLM is now being committed by those who have believed they are true Americans. Four people are dead as a result of the attack on the White House on Wednesday. The sacred building has now been stained in more ways than one.

The blood of a woman shot down, the germs of those who dared trash the offices of elected officials and the symbol of hatred and oppression. Unmasked rioters broke windows, climbed the walls and went inside the People’s House with no thought of the coronavirus. One man actually took a Confederate flag into the building. This is the result of Donald Trump being unchecked and unhindered by those around him. Number 45 is an angry bully and wants to inflict pain because he was voted out of office.

His winks, nods, and dog whistles to hate groups have brought this upon us. The peoplr in Georgia on the same day voted a black man and a Jewish man into office. My Facebook newsfeed is filled will prayers for them both as well as Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. Instead of a time of celebrating diversity, many Americans are praying the newly elected and soon to be elected officials out of fear for their lives. The rebel flag inside the Whitehouse is a symbol of hatred and bigotry and not southern heritage.

The man in the picture is letting the world know he is not in favor of change but wants the “ White” house to have people in it who only look like him. What a disgrace to the nation and an embarrassment to the world. News reporters said there were more Trump flags than American flags which sends a chilling message just like the Confederate flag. Three White House staff have resigned in the wake of the mob actions and the deaths of 4 Americans. The blood of those who died is on the hands of Donald Trump and his enablers. Every word and action has consequences and the man holding the Confederate flag made his position clear.

Thank you Donald Trump because your dog whistles, winks and nods to extremists has brought this about. When I saw that man with the flag, I thought back to a story I’ve shared many times. My children and I were leaving church one Sunday and a man in a nearby house was standing on his porch glaring at the church building. His left hand was holding a Confederate flag which wax mounted on the porch. The church we were attending had been in this building about a month and this was the first time we had ever seen this man or his flag. The hatred in his eyes and his message was clear. The predominately black church and the members were not welcome.

The man who thought it OK to bring a Confederate flag inside the White House let everyone know where he and many others stand. His face is on camera and he can be identified but he did not care. Donald Trump had so worked up his base that they are acting without considering consequence. It is mind boggling to consider that one man has the powe to draw such hate as well as hateful actions from people. On CNN Chris Coumo said this morning that he gets lots of emails with Confederate flags. Anyone who after seeing this photo that still says it’s about Souther pride is lying to themselves.

The same way Senate Republicans downplayed the words and actions of Donald Trump, is the same way Americans downplay the true meaning behind the rebel flag. The Civil War is over and the south lost yet people proudly carry that flag in spite of what represents. I think of the television series The Beverly Hillbillies where Granny Clamprt would don her Confederate uniform, grab her shotgun and shout, The South shall rise again”, Why would anyone be proud of ancestors who enslaved other people and lost the war? When that flag is waved it caused black people to feel that some Americans desire a comeback of slavery.

The south will not rise again and Americans will never again own slaves. This nation is now embracing diversity and the people that n the fringes should accept the changes and move on. Somewhere out there it’s possible that there are those who hang on to the losing battle flag because of sentiment and honoring their members s guided ancestors. That does not change the fact that som, like the man in the picture use this relic to promote hate. Thankfully Joe Biden will soon be in office and hopefully he will be the antidote that will tun the tide on the diseases of COVID-19 as well as hate.
