Promises and Accomplishments

Donald Trump, our 45th and current president of these United States of America, is not exactly the most popular president we have had. Sure, he has tons of followers. A very large amount, in fact. But is he really making America great again? He has a long list of bad press and comments made that reflect poorly on his leadership skills and persona as a President.

In July of 2016, Trump became the GOP presidential nominee. Shortly after the vote he tweeted, "Such a great honor to be the Republican Nominee for President of the United States. I will work hard and never let you down! AMERICA FIRST!"

During his campaign, Trump made many promises to the American people. Some of these promises were outlandish, and not all of America agreed with his views on how he wanted to “make America great again.” Here are some of the promises that were made.

Build a wall and have Mexico pay for it.

During his candidacy Trump announced a promise to build a wall on our southern border. He even went as far as to say he intended to have Mexico pay for this great, great wall. Even his supporters were skeptic on how this promise would come to be considering a wall of this proportion would be extremely expensive, and it was highly unlikely that Mexico would be paying for this wall.

Since Trump has been in office, have there been any plans for this wall?

Since the omnibus spending bill for the 2018 fiscal year passed in March, Trump has made claims of his long-awaited wall being under construction. The funding is roughly $1.6 billion, and the omnibus bill funds some new fencing. It’s not quite the concrete barrier Trump described during his campaign. In fact, it is mostly replacing existing border fencing that has been deemed useless or broken down. This is what the Trump administration is calling “the wall.” This doesn't sound much like the great wall President Trump once promised.

Bring manufacturing jobs back to our country.

Trump promised to “be the greatest jobs president God ever created” and during a speech he explained how.

“I am going to withdraw the United States from the Trans-pacific Partnership. I’m going to tell our NAFTA partners that I intend to immediately renegotiate the terms of that agreement to get a better deal for our workers. I will use every lawful presidential power to remedy trade disputes, including the application of tariffs”

Has he brought more jobs back since the start of his presidential term?

These are just a couple of the promises Trump made during his campaign. While he was able to somewhat keep both of these promises, what else has Trump done since being in office?

Fox and Friends gave a short list of accomplishments President Trump have recently made.

  • Moving U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem
  • Leaving the Iran deal
  • Release of prisoners and summit with Kim Jong Un
  • Rising approval ratings
  • Two judges rebuke Mueller’s investigation
  • Making the economy great again

Whether Trump has made an actual positive impact on America is a simple matter of opinion. Set aside the fact that he is a misogynist with absolutely no respect for any woman of any race, color, or religion and he may be a good guy deep down inside... Aside from this is he really what America needs? What steps has he taken to truly propel our country to the greatness he claims to be able to bring it to? While he has a list of good accomplishments, he also has a long and bad rap sheet.
