Power
Dear World Leaders, There was a steaming pile of negative feedback about Greta Thunberg’s speech at the UN Climate Action Summit just after the fact. She’s been criticized for criticizing adults with secondary educations in: how to interact with other people (politics), how to take care of the environment (environmental scientists), and how financial systems work (economy), among others. No one likes to hear that they are failing, that’s part of being human. To err, though, is also human. True failure is not learning from those mistakes and improving upon them. That is why this 16-year-old woman chose to speak at such an important global event. She’s giving those of us who can already do so much more to alter the state of the world the chance to do so – a second chance. Perhaps the last one we will ever receive. As she says, “if you choose to fail us, I say: We will never forgive you.”
Gabrielle LamontagnePublished 4 years ago in The SwampThe Ultimate Battle Royale: Biden vs Trump
Now that Mini Super Tuesday is done and it looks like former VP Joe Biden will be the Democrat who will go up against Trump in November for the ultimate prize: The presidency of the United States. This is much to the chagrin of many Bernie Sanders supporters who thought that their guy was a shoe in. Turns out he wasn't.

Nathalia RamosPublished 4 years ago in The Swamp Connecticut Proves That Science Can Win Legal Battles
A bill that was aimed at banning the keeping of cetaceans in zoological facilities in Connecticut failed to make it onto the state’s Environmental Committee’s Agenda and will likely remain dead for the rest of the year. The bill, dubbed “CT-5341”, would have banned Connecticut-based zoos and aquariums from keeping cetacean species such as beluga whales, dolphins, and orcas for any given purpose in favor of more “ethical” practices.
Jenna DeedyPublished 4 years ago in The SwampClimate Change
When the World Bank recently stated that Climate Change is a real imminent threat to the peace of the world really should be a wake up call to all those Republican climate change deniers. Heaven forbid we should shutter the fact that oil profits could suffer. But, like Scrooge himself stated if the multitudes suffer and die so-be-it and decrease the surplus population is the mindset of too many of the powers that be. The real scary thought though is that global warming if left unchecked today with all the scientific evidence to back up the fact the earth is getting warmer will thrust the world into a much harsher reality within the next decade.

Dear Leaders, The world is on fire. The oceans are filled with trash. We have lakes filled with toxic waste and air filled with pollution.
Sarah BeattiePublished 4 years ago in The SwampGreen Building adaptability will sink the demands of natural resources and ease in urban governance
The worldwide urban sustainability by residents has led to growing demands for green buildings, Property care and sustainable livelihood. In response, many developed countries on the globe took the leading role in green or sustainable building construction and practices by supportive policies and financial support, but country like India is in its starting stage in adapting market, educating citizens and policies to encourage more green building developments. COVID19 (Corona Virus) spreading like wildfire, Suppression of the Russian report, de-funding of the NHS, a retreat from the European project. All indicative of new breed of politicians. Peddlers of lies.
EdgarHuitemaPublished 4 years ago in The SwampA Letter To The World
Climate change is responsible for many of the disasters that occur in the world, whether it be wildfires in Australia, Tornados in America or floods that sink Venice. Despite clear evidence provided by many individual scientific studies appearing on a weekly basis, there still remains a large proportion of the public who entirely disregard the effects the human race has on our home - Planet Earth.

HERBERT DYERPublished 4 years ago in The SwampA Dire Request
My Open Letter to Bernie Sanders: Bernie, Based off of the incredible efforts we have seen from you in the past, and all of the positive changes you want to make for the future, a majority of us younger individuals believe you have what it takes to save our deteriorating planet from further destruction. You have fought for minorities, marched for equality, defended those who weren't being listened to, pitched your ideas toward a better life for all, and essentially demanded that everyone is allowed to have a voice. You've done all of these amazing things for society, but what we wish for... need most from you now, is your authoritarian stand in the fight against climate change. Too many world leaders tend to make a mockery of the young climate change activists that are doing nothing but trying their hardest to save our environment, and it is unacceptable.
Samantha BrinkerPublished 4 years ago in The SwampThe Gun
Imagine a gun. You don’t have to imagine it, it’s right here in the kitchen, lying on the counter, painfully naked and exposed beneath the dying golden light of the setting sun. The gun looks brand new; black, shiny, unscathed - a classic Smith & Wesson build, almost too perfect. The magazine, full of bullets, lays next to it. You don’t really know where it came from or how it got there, but you can’t find it in yourself to care, and you reach forward to wrap your fingers around the handle. As you lift it off the marbled surface of the counter you revel in the comfortable weight of it in your hand, and it fascinates you to no end. Your finger brushes against the trigger, gently, tentatively. Slowly and deliberately, your grip closes more firmly and you raise it to eye level, the barrel pointed squarely at a framed picture of your parents on the opposite side of the room. It’s well-balanced. You think you might shoot some cans and bottles out on the porch the next day. This is a handgun, but you also have a sawed-off shotgun in the shed, and a semi-automatic rifle hanging above the mantelpiece in your living room, like it’s your most prized possession. Occasionally, you go game-hunting; you think of it as a rewarding and stress-relieving activity.
