Boris, Brexit Corruption, Independence and the Death of Democracy in England.

When England ceases to carry the flag of democracy Russia will produce the greatest civilisation ever known.

(Attributed, probably wrongly, to Madam Blavatsky).

Sixty years ago when I read that, you could say that would never happen because the first half could never happen.

It was, in many ways, a simpler, more trusting time. Political corruption, like police corruption, was well hidden and may have been less, even though drivers routinely folded ten pounds into their driving licence in case they the police stopped them.

And there was no support for Independence

Today the first half of the prophecy is happening and the UK is sleepwalking into a theocratic dictatorship based on worship of the divine free market, its prophet Milton Friedman (safely dead) and its priests in the Parliamentary “Tory” party.

The future of democracy in the UK is looking bleak. It seems likely we will end with a sham democracy, if not a dictatorship like that in V for Vendetta. This is driven by the populist lies behind Brexit and the shamelessly opportunist behaviour of the Lord of the Lies and his cronies.

And support for independence should be rising, but the public debate is about a referendum, not independence. Independence for Scotland and Wales is on the agenda and even Cornwall is stirring.

Corruption

The UK is currently ruled by a corrupt, neoliberal, crypto-fascist kleptocracy but support for Scottish independence is stagnating.

Owen Patterson’s multiple jobs and the revelation many Tory MPs had second jobs and using their connections in ways the public considered unacceptable caused public outrage. It was of course underplayed by the BBC and the rest of the UK’s propagandist media, though, with their instinct for what will boost sales, even the right wing media attacked the government. maybe seeing a chance to boost the case for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak or Priti Patel, who might be more to their taste.

And with all this support for Scottish independence is stagnating.

The Westminster’s efforts to use Mr Patterson as an excuse to remove the committee that enforces standards of conduct that are supposed to keep MPs on the straight and narrow, and the standards themselves, were scotched when Patterson resigned immediately after Tory MPs had been whipped to vote for the removal or emasculation of the standards committee. There are reports that the entire fiasco was cooked up by the Spartan Brexiteer group of Tories plus Patterson

This created an apparent crisis for The Johnson, and rumours of a leadership challenge. There are forecasts that the by-election on December 2nd could turn into a bye-election for the Boris. Perhaps all this was stage managed by the Spartan group to weaken the Boris.

Democracy under Attack

The scandal over legalised corruption on the part of various MPs, not all Tory, obscures the efforts by the Boris and his cronies to roll back democracy in the UK by several hundred years. These include plans to

• Gerrymander boundaries;

• require voters to show passports at polling stations;

and reduce or remove:

• the ability of Parliament to scrutinise the executive;

• the safeguards on whistle-blowers who expose wrongdoing;

• the right to peaceful protest;

• the right to vote by requiring the poorest to provide expensive forms of ID at polling stations – Some Tories have proposed removing the vote from the unemployed;

• the independence of regulators such as the electoral commission;

• the ability of the courts to review the legality of government actions.

They have of course omitted, for now, removing the vote from women and imposing a property qualification for the right to vote – say owning a house worth more than ten million pounds without a mortgage, but are stating their pavlovian opposition to Scottish Independence, the one thing that would keep them in power for ever with their claws grasping the key to the piggy bank.

And with all this support for Scottish independence is stagnating.

Corruptocracy

We are governed by a Tory corruptocracy of plutosexuals (Ploutos was the greek god of wealth) seeking to turn the UK into a cash cow for MPs, Ministers and donors to the Tory party. In the process they want to turn the UK into a pretend democracy, like those seen in the USSR and its satellites where the number of candidates exactly matched the number of seats. They are aided by a complicit Labour party that has steadfastly refused to attack or vote against the government no matter how many open goals The Johnson provides.

And yet, despite all this, support for Scotland’s independence has not risen.

Why are The Scots people scared of Independence?

Perhaps the Scots are, as Margaret Thatcher said “Too Feart” for independence, or are like a man standing on the roof of a burning building unwilling to jump for the net held by waiting firemen until the flames are licking his back. Perhaps it is because of the malign influence of the mainstream media propaganda for Westminster. Perhaps it is because the mainstream propaganda outfits claim support for Independence is hatred of the English. Same lies, different days.

In Conclusion

When the Scottish people lose their cringe there could be a landslide shift towards independence. Hopefully soon.

But a premature referendum, which some are pushing for, could prevent Independence for two generations.
