Anti-Depression Session

Depression is at an all-time high among Americans of various backgrounds and age groups. As you can imagine, this could be linked to any number of reasons. Regardless of why, here are 5 simple steps to help anyone stave off the negative effects of depression.

1# Breathe in Fresh Air

Take a moment to step outside and breathe in some fresh air. In this age of digital technology, it can be easy to find ourselves locked down at a desk or glued to our smart phones. Take a moment to be outdoors and live in the present. It sounds cliché but trust me when I say this can correct the flow of a bad day.

2# Open A few Windows

Ok so this is almost like a part two for the first step but If you can’t go outside right away this can definitely help. Open all the windows in your home or office space (if you can) and let fresh air circulate. It will boost your mood which will take the edge off if things aren’t feeling good.

3# Eat something

I find that far too many of my friends don’t eat regularly. If you fall into this category, consider grabbing some food to boost your mood (yes, I know that rhymed lol). Lack of energy will make you feel draggy and negatively affect your workday. If you don’t feel like eating, (but still need to) think about a favorite food you haven’t had in a while. It will give you that, “Ooo that sounds nice” feeling. See? I bet you’re feeling better already!

4# Drink Water

I know, we’ve all heard this one a million times by now; however, it still very common for the average person to miss out on the needed consumption of water daily. I don’t think this point needs heavy reiteration, all the same…. The important thing is to be consistent when approaching the giant that is drinking water daily. Drinking water on the first day is easy, but day 2 and day 3 can get much harder. Baby steps are important; start small, build slowly, and be persistent. Easier said then done, but, a healthier life will decrease the effects of depression.

#5 Baby Steps

It’s very easy for us to get excited and try to cut off bad habits immediately. Unfortunately this usually has the opposite effect. Good intentions will help us get started but consistent behavior will take us to our goals. For this reason, It’s VERY important to infuse positive behavior slowly rather than cut off bad habits immediately. The old saying used to ask, “How do you eat an elephant? One bit at a time.”
