Your Brain Isn’t Always Your Friend
A poem about the complexities and realities of living with mental illness
Your brain isn't your friend,
enemy, mother, father, sister or brother;
it's a part of your body
that acts just like legs, arms and such.
Just like broken ankles,
scratches, cuts, burns and bruises,
we have mental injuries called
despondence, anger and fright.
Our physical health is needed,
so is our psychological and mental health.
We get colds, fevers, flus and viruses,
we also have emotional outbursts.
Deaths, break-ups, bullying,
abuse, trauma and molestation
are all variables to mental illness.
Trips, falls, fungi,
smoking, drinking and getting stoned,
are all factors to casualties and sickness.
