You taught me to jump off the bridge

And other fatal mistakes

You taught me to jump off the bridge

I used to ride in the passenger seat,

you used to drive me around.

You found another companion,

now I drive my own car through town.

*

I used to dream, and soar in the sky.

you made me feel safe and sound.

You got bored with my lofty dreams,

cut my sails, and I fell to the ground.

*

You made me feel I could capture the wind,

trust in myself, and I did.

I felt safe on your edge, didn’t question you then,

you taught me to jump off the bridge.

*

My senses lit up when my eyes were on you,

you filled my heart up, like my head.

I told you my secrets, you gave me your name,

but 3 in a marriage, don’t fit.

*

I came crashing down from the pedestal you made,

the one I said I didn’t belong on.

Spiraling out of control towards the ground like a stone,

you wiped off your hands, and just moved on.

*

I wish I had that kind of strength, the ability to change, without blinking,

sever ties, disconnect and start over again.

I wonder now, what the hell was I thinking?
