you’ll never see me as much
Or something big,
A big Hollywood show, bombastic and spectacular
Or one of those corny old musicals I like
Is that what you want?
No.
It is not so much the definition
So much as it being
The fact that
It is “me” that is undesirable for you.
You’ll never see me on the platform of white,
In pictures or film,
At tables late at night,
Dancing or singing to loud music just because.
You’ll never see me out, in long dresses or skirts, since you thought they were
Unacceptable
Or too old fashioned
-and you will never see me
Smile with roses,
Or sunflowers
Next to you,
For you threw that picture of romance away a long time ago.
But I’m not
Validated or squashed
By any of that.
I know you know all of this.
There is nothing wrong with
Dreaming about who I could be,
Who I am
And what I can do.
The drain of my heart seemed empty
Full of pulpy matter,
And stringy masses.
It’s beating low and quiet
Inoffensive.
My voice quieted to keep yours loud.
I’ll take care of my love, I know it’s real and loud and honest and
My heart can beat like a hummingbird
In the warm sun.
You’ll never see it,
You’ll never feel it.
Even though it’s been there for you
All
Along.
