Work Force Wunderkind

I've been doing some thinking.

I've been doing some thinking about thinking about

all of the things I couldn't do without.

I've been doing some thinking about thinking about

things, little or large, that I can't live without.

*

Congregation.

Separation.

Occupation.

Light fixation.

*

Inspiration.

Instigation.

Exaltation.

Inflammation of that vital creative gland

somewhere between the frontal lobe and Wonderland.

*

Drained of color, tired, bland.

What you feel is all too real,

I'd like to help if I can.

*

Is it gonna work?

Is it gonna work, is it gonna?

*

Casually enter into some debt,

just to light a fire underneath your feet.

Boot up that Nintendo, baby, try to forget

about that innocent kid they gunned down in the street.

*

Is it gonna work?

*

Check that diction, soldier, watch what you say.

Addiction's a hunter, you are its prey.

Don't fall into the trenches, don't you mute those comms.

Can we fix it with wrenches? Can we fix it with bombs?

*

Is it gonna work?

Is it gonna work, is it gonna?

*

Bring a beautiful baby boy out into the world,

hope he'll establish some balance in a life that's been hurled

out of your control.

*

Pray that some force somewhere will inject some soul

into that grayed-out, exasperated palette that you're struggling to hold.

It used to feel so light.

*

Is it gonna work?

Is it gonna work, is it gonna?

*

Flick that smoke and set the world ablaze,

or just scroll for a minute to find the new self-harm craze.

One way or another, we're all some sort of insane.

Grab a number. Don't speak out, just let your betters explain.

*

Is it gonna work?

*

Take your medicine, the world is sick.

Are we its symptoms? Will this do the trick?

Don't dare trust anyone who says they know best.

It was a roll of the dice, who could have guessed?

*

Is it gonna work?

Is it gonna work, is it gonna?

About the Creator

Jacob Sherman

The desire to read, and perhaps to write, should be cultivated and nurtured with care throughout every stage of life. For my part I will inject what strangeness and truth that I can into our written history. Expect no constants but honesty.
