Wildlife, Edmonton

A poem written for my beautiful Northern City

Wildlife, Edmonton

the flutter of wings brilliant shiny black and white

the graceful hopping in fields through the cool snowy night

an ambitious brown furry trickster racing up and across trees

all somehow staying outside in the cool winter breeze

magpies and rabbits, quick moving squirrels, finches too

Edmonton no wanderlust could take me from you

my heart will be here, even if far away

we have so much life here even on frozen days

but that doesn’t mean my heart will not sing

when the magical phrase is said, “oh here is Spring!”
