Why wildfires are so devastating and evil for our world

Inspired by the tragic Australian wildfires in 2019/2020, the fires in the Amazon and all the times devastating times nature goes up in flames.

In trying to make sense of the natural disaster — to understand the why of the devastation and the sense of intangible evil, I stumbled across a different viewpoint — seeing the wildfire personified as the antagonist character. I wrote this poem from the perspective of the Fire.

Flicker and dance,

our dance consumes,

We raise up the plumes,

it's in our prance.

We hunger for more

and grow and grow,

Dance and dance,

and throe and throw.

Flicker and crackle

and dance in the night,

Light up the heavens

and none can fight!

They fear us to death,

we dance on their plot,

Ash choking their breath,

they know we won't stop;

We burn with the pulse

and dance in their dreams,

And here; hear, hear the screams!
