(Even as a Kid)

I never liked the children’s book

Called “The Giving Tree”

How could she give herself away

And do so just for free

~

Each time the boy arrived

She complied with his request

A thank you never sought

She gave without protest

~

Seasons turned to years

His hair faded gray

Her branches, sticks and leaves were gone

She gave them all away

~

On his final visit

She offered what she had left

A simple place to take a seat

To give relief and rest

~

Life is just so strange

As the tables have turned for me

Because now that I'm a mother

I see the tree is me

Pieces of Me ~ Poems by Heidi

In 2022, I came across a bin of my journals spanning many years. It was then that I realized I haven’t told people I enjoy writing or shared my work publicly. I decided to start.
