Who Really Loves You?
A Poem
Who really loves you?
Is it the one who says he does,
offers you the sun, the moon and the stars,
says all you ever wanted to hear,
consoling you there is nothing you should fear?
Who really loves you?
Is it the one who catches your eye,
takes your hand and holds you tight,
whispers sweet nothings to your ear,
and remembers you each day of the year?
Who really loves you?
Is it the one who showers you with kisses,
says it’s only you that he misses,
gives you a golden ring to wear,
professes he’d be with you forever?
Ah, if only it’s that easy
to see if love is true,
But words are often so quickly said,
and promises are things that people forget.
Everyone’s in love when the sun is shining,
when the flowers bloom and when the road is paved.
Everyone’s in love when your heart is smiling
and no effort is needed to keep away the rain.
But the one who loves is the one who stays,
the one who goes with you through all your pain.
The one who loves is the one who remembers
when everyone else starts to walk away.
