The sound of traffic
whirs by me
in this middle of nowhere.
Everyone seems to be headed somewhere
to some destination,
but what about me?
Am I headed anywhere?
Families,
dinners,
soccer games and
other mundane things play out
Against the backdrop of the chaos
and brokenness of this world.
I read in the NYT this week
that "President Biden
authorized the bombing of
Syria and its Iran-backed forces."
Nuclear threats,
an epidemic raging across the land,
epidemiological crises,
inequities,
a black and white America,
trench warfare for women,
gender-based violence --
apocalyptic threats bound in today's news' headlines.
So where are we headed from here?
Where am I going from here
in this new world
where tomorrow seems like an ephemeral reality,
a hit or miss? --
a random series of events dictated by the arbitrary roll of the dice,
punctuated by iridescent joys
but also marked by deep valleys, unimaginable and fury -ridden and fluorescent,
the color of amber.
My Love, take me home.
