When You're Here

For you and me

You're in that cheap seat, frayed and blue,

ten simple steps would send me to you,

but I don't even have to move

to feel your warmth.

No need for me to meet your eyes

and try to find who's on you mind,

I hope you know your name's on mine

with every breath.

Words will wither, silence is a friend,

no discomfort when our discourse ends,

but if I wish, I know you'll lend

your ear to me.

With quip or quiet, space or touch,

this is a gentler kind of love

across the room is just enough

to know you're here.
