When You Meet A Stranger

When you meet a stranger ponder the connection,

How did you feel?

The possibilities are endless,

Is this stranger your future predestination?

Open your heart, take a chance,

Feel their aura, does it hold any appeal?

Hear their heartbeat, study their smile,

Are you in the mood for flirtation?

Worship the kindness that shows in the lines upon their face,

Can you establish if they are friend or foe?

Hold fire on your judgement call,

Do they make your breath catch?

Hold a deep and meaningful conversation,

Is this someone you want to know?

Listen to the words unspoken,

Is it possible they’re a successful match?

Smile into their eyes,

Is there a mutual attraction?

Question their motives, be sure,

Are they worthy as your friend?

Ask them the hard questions,

Are you happy with their reaction?

Check out all you have in common,

Are they all you’d recommend?

Consider their future potential,

Are they a possible friend, lover, beau or stranger?

Take note of how they make you feel,

Do you want to run or stay?

Listen to your initial perception,

Are they safe or a source of danger?

Don’t second guess your gut feelings,

What is your intuition telling you they portray?

Live well surrounded by worthy people,

Strangers turned into the best of the best.

Make precious memories,

That carry you through into old age.

Those that make you feel blessed,

Because you both passed the friendship test.

Feel the laughter, the magic of a connection,

Of those that choose to play and engage.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

What do I feel when I meet a stranger? I feel so much potential for all that is wonderful & good & that I am unworthy of them. But I will be what I can for them anyway.

A stranger may be a friend you've never met before... Or, as Dharrsheena said, a serial killer on the prowl. Lol. Your poem is lovely and so full of truth. We have to listen to our instincts. Great job.

  • Not me thinking they would turn out to be a serial killer, lol. Loved your poem!
