A flock of birds
playing, chasing each other
around the limbs of their friend,
the dead tree.
—
They whirled around
every inch of every branch
squawking at one another, exclaiming:
"There is happiness here!"
—
Leaping from one dead branch to another
the birds climbed higher
and together sang out:
"Our friend left happiness here!"
—
Their song rang throughout the forest
and out further – into the world.
—
What is left behind when our loved ones leave us? This is a thought I think about often and I believe that if you look through the pain and heartache, you'll see that they left you with happiness and peace.
