What I've Learned

Poetry at 14 Years Old

Moonlight on the Mississippi River

I've learned that

to live a life of love

you must love a life of pain

I've learned that

when nobody is there for you

then how can you

possibly be there for yourself

I've learned that

no matter what goes wrong

it can only grow worse

and it usually does

I've learned that

life goes on with or without you

and that boarding the train of love

can make the ride speed up

but, then it can stop

with no warning

and without slowing down

I've learned that love

is like a puddle of mud

you get to much dirt you dry out

you get to much water

and you get drowned inside yourself

This is what I've learned

and now I am passing this knowledge to you

my luck has run out

the end of my ride has come

may my love and hope pass on to you

I want you to have this knowledge

of what I've learned

may you live life on

and may you use

what you will learn.
