The weight of a smile,
as it falls to a frown.
The weight of a decision,
that changes your world around.
A second to catch a breathe-
A minute to catch a run away thought
A day brings self-awareness of life lessons being taught.
The weight of a much needed embrace,
To smooth out the tension,
The weight of the world,
Like a printing press, pressing your shoulders to a shrug
The feeling of pressure inked across the skins surface.
Early exposure to negative connotations
The unrealistic sense of beauty,
The damage negative body image creates lingers,
The weight of being a woman,
Under constant condensation from others
Weighted,
like a bobber,
or anchor,
Well, no longer
May we find strength in our own volition.
From a rib that we broke, to stand here today
From the blood supply we fed off in the womb
From decades of suffrage, reproductive rights, and equal pay,
To basic human rights, and me too movements, we still stand
In silence, in streets, and hospital rooms.
Raise your fist, grab pick-its!
Sew a dress,
or pair of jeans with pockets,
Daughters of the 21st century demand it!
Say that’s a negative!
YES, her, we, and I
Are not in competition,
We are a force, to be reckoned with,
We will no longer, be silent,
You’re terms of beauty are revoked!
We refuse to be weighted down!
We have been woke!
