(written in the shadow of Roe v. Wade being overturned)
first, we protest
then we play
because I refuse
to let them take
my right to happiness
away
my right to smile
my right to dance
my right to laugh
to catch my breath
at the moment’s rest
my roar will be fierce
echoing the cries of humanity
my bite will pierce
the veil of this reality
hug your love, carry them
close
do not stand quiet
& morose
move your body
rest your soul
feel the energy release
remember
you are in control
living for freedom
breathing for peace
the warriors who fight
will never sleep
