Wishes have a dark side.

this stray dandelion seed floats

away, dust on the wind

and there is no weight

that lifts from my chest

with that one grain

of a weed’s life

there is so much

expectation

knowing the right words

is a daunting task

when my mind fails,

thoughtless

flowers arrived late last night,

Invading the small kitchen sink

and I wished for you

to be a touch away

I should be better

because time moves me

while you stand still,

lost in distant memory

closing my tired eyes

reunites me for moments

but you have slipped

so very far away

the bouquet sits against steel,

Its pretty petals already wilting,

so thirsty for some regard,

just like I find myself

“say goodbye,” they say,

but it’s not easy,

not the first day

and definitely not now

tonight I allow myself

to remember a time

when I was happy,

yours
