You walk the streets of Suburbia

not like an Egyptian

more like a Solid Gold dancer with intentional, slow hip sways

in case the neighborhood boys want to come out to play

and put their hands on you while you dribble and they protect the hoop

No one calls foul

Some walk with you until they get the courage to ask you to do more

No, you say, I’m only 14

but desire feels good

One boy calls you with *86 and says he saw you walking

He touches himself while you watch Luke and Laura and wonder who he is

You have learned to walk in a line, one foot in front of the other to make your bum wiggle

Grown men drive by, circle round and pass again

In your underage mind, this is a compliment

and not a line

that has been crossed
