I shall gather leaves and berries

roots and bark

making preparations...

On a blanket of bluebonnets

I shall lay you down

my collection of bones

sprinkling stars

like pixie dust

into your eyes

and brushing across your lips

the petals of the wild primrose

with strips of willowbark

I shall reassemble you

bathe you in the milky way

placing then,

each your sorrows upon

a leaf

setting them adrift

one by one into

a pool of my tears

I shall gather you into my arms

sing for you

a song of the river

of time immemorial

and

lulled into your first quiet sleep

continuing to hold you
