You wanted a perfect little girl

To dress in frilly skirts and sequined shirts

Do up her hair in little pigtails that wave in the breeze

You wanted her to grow into a successful young woman

Get married

Have kids

Experience a baby growing and forming and kicking in her stomach

This is what you wanted

But instead you got a damaged, imperfect boy

One who has been confused since the day he was born

One who has been subjected to cruel pranks and teasing remarks

Who has subjected himself to the worst of the abuse

Who tried to starve and purge and cut the hatred away

Who only wanted to feel whole

To feel happy

To be who he was all along

Finally

Finally

He got the nerve to accept himself

And came out to you

And you…

You didn’t accept him
