"Cursed with Words"

Why must I be cursed, she thinks,

Cursed with the curse of words,

When she was born fate smiled, life winks,

As she made her way into the world,

She smiled then as well,

The words are what she’d always known,

But then she bid her friends farewell,

Every time her curse was shown,

Beautiful they said at first,

But they did not see the words were not hers,

When they ran was the very worst,

Sooner than later they all became blurs,

Protectors became tormentors,

Life was just a stage,

She was nothing but a pretender,

Trapped inside a golden cage,

Her name was Sparrow,

Such a pity that she could not fly,

But she did swim in sorrow,

Why me, why I?

She was trapped in a padded room,

Lost within her own mind,

The little girl danced with doom,

Only death was kind,

Sometimes she forgot the others,

And sang to the moon and stars,

The sky that mothers,

Her between poison-laced bars,

Mother and Father left long ago,

The circus director took her out of the darkness,

And made her part of the family, part of the show,

And taught her the art of lies that were most incarnate,

Now she could weave lethal lies and even more deadly truths,

She still could not fly but at least she could float aloof,

Pretty lies are what she sold to the joyful youths,

After all, why didn’t they ask for proof?

The dancers taught her how to dance,

And the clowns taught her how to laugh,

You wouldn't give them a second glance,

They were nothing but the circus staff,

But to her they were her joy,

The light in living in the night,

And nothing could ever destroy,

Her unearthly delight.

Part One of Sparrows journey to free herself prom her poetic curse.
