I saw a UFO

one night

driving half

the state of California.

Middle of the night,

5 freeway empty

aside from us

and a few truckers

trying to make a few bucks

to feed themselves.

I was tired but aware.

The land around us

empty farmlands

low lights

and middle of nowhere

gas stations

straight out of a

Stephen King novel.

I saw lights dance in the skies to my left,

dancing like a

well practiced ballet.

Crop dusters dont

move like that.

Eyes on the road,

eyes on the skies,

I didn't know where to look.

My friends refused to actually

open their eyes and look.

Instead they called me

insane,

half asleep,

they mocked me.

The lights were there

in all their glory

blinding and beautiful.

Gaslit and confused,

eyes on the road

and the lights danced

in my peripheral.

A performance just for me.
