To Write
A submission for the Get Comfortable Challenge
Scribbled notes on a scrap of paper
to catch lightning in a bottle.
The pen is mightier than the sword,
mightier still in its hollowness, a bridge
between thought and life in the world.
Flashing cursor beckons
to fill the empty canvas of the page
with my words.
Soft music carries me along,
and the day drifts to the periphery
as fingers dance across the keyboard.
Creating fable and fiction,
because in the story of your life,
the least reliable narrator is you.
Finding myself
in the spaces between words,
speaking volumes I didn’t intend.
Where did that come from? I think,
taking the gift humbly and swiftly
before it can move on
to another creator.
Each word a brick, a tile,
a footstep on new ground.
None more satisfying or aching than
The End.

"in the spaces between words, taking the gift humbly and swiftly before it can move on to another creator." Exactly!
Love this one. Couldn't have captured the comfort of writing any better.
You have some really great entries for this competition! Well done!
Another excellent poem. You have captured the essence of a writer’s quandary. The images are vivid and real. Congratulations.
