To Skellig

(A Vignette of 'Sceilig Mhór')

Sceilig Mhór

The boat could not be described as sturdy, as it carries us to the rock.

Gulls overhead, swooping and crying.

Surf hitting our faces, salt water on our lips.

It's colder, closer to the rock.

We move into shadow.

The others are excited, nervous, anticipating.

I feel I am approaching power - nature's power - and small me is heeding a warning...

Venture safely! Take care! I am unrelenting and eternal. Respect me!

Smaller still, on legs that could not be described as sturdy, I alight onto Skellig.
