They were part time lovers

They were full time strangers

They were seeing several others

But were a couple in the making

They didn't want the drama

So they spread time across their rosters

Weren't ready to commit to one another

So they had to be patient

They were part time lovers

Saw each other on the weekends

Made a pact not to be exclusive

Not until they were ready

He caught feelings, she caught baby

And no it wasn't his

They were close to making it official

Now they're thinking about what could've been

To love in LA, to love in LA

To love in 2020, to love today

Nine months go by and baby daddy nowhere to be found

Nine months go by and she focuses on herself

It was some guy she met when she turned up alone

When part time lover was busy with someone else

He checks up every now and then

As she admires his necklace left on her shelf

All these thoughts of what could have been

If they didn't just keep it to the weekend

Five years go by and she's focused on the kid

Hasn't had a date since delivery but neither has him

His brand is up and running

The one that kept him running from something serious

Now he wonders what if he balanced love and business

To love in LA, to love in LA

To love in 2020, to love today

They were part time lovers

They were full time strangers

They were seeing each other

Then they suddenly vanished

Had too many options

Too many faces to manage

Too many apps to handle

And everyone is damaged

Just a few words to get undressed

Spoke the same lust language

"How do I make them like me?"

Just whip out your camera

Take a few snaps, arch your back

Keep it candid

Upload it to all the platforms

A thousand likes, a thousand messages

You didn't want to settle for love

So that's exactly what you didn't get

Breath full of liquor

Mind full of regrets

A hundred lovers lived in your head

But only one had residence

Gave up on paying rent

Memories of what could've been

To love in LA, to love in LA

To love in 2020, to love today

Of all the dives in the world

She walked into mine

Been a year since I've seen her

Looks like she's doing fine

Took up the next barstool

Silence for a while

She broke the quiet with a whisper

"Have you missed me since the last time?"

Two kids having drinks

Grew up in the last year

We're not who we once were

Different from what could've been

Waiting forever for her to say it

"I wish I let you in"

They slipped through her lips

With an ounce of hesitance

Grew up in the last year

Not who I was before

Took a final sip and a last look

And took off through the door

Phone blowing up

A thousand texts, a thousand messages

Pleading for forgiveness

And thoughts of what could've been

"You didn't me

You wanted the city"

The last text I ever sent

She knew I loved her once

Even when she never did

To love in LA, to love in LA

To love in 2020, to love today

We were part time lovers

We were full time strangers

She was seeing several others

But we were a couple in the making

She didn't want the drama

So she spread time across her roster

Wasn't ready to commit to one another

So I had to be patient

We were part time lovers

Saw each other on the weekends

Made a pact not to be exclusive

Not until she was ready

I caught feelings, she caught baby

And no it wasn't mine

We were close to making it official

Now she's thinking about last time
