Maybe it upsets you
when the sun rays enhance
the brownest hues that lie
within your gorgeous skin:
to me,
your darkened tones
taste sweeter than any blackberry I've ever wrapped my tongue around.
You were crafted by God.

I always ask myself
why I give my love
to people who
often hurt me the most...
the cold shower water
drips on my head as I
come to the realization
that maybe,
just maybe,
I am attracted to the thorns
rather than the petals
of the velvet rose.
