As I journeyed came a thirst to quench

When I met a man who offered drink

Into a glass he poured just an inch

From a flask of gold I think

I bid him grace

But begged for more

For this but a taste

And my throat very sore

He said your thirst is small so this will do

But as you grow, your thirst will too

When you thirst, there shall I be

With flask of gold for you from me

I journeyed long with my pallet drenched

When once again a fire burned

I pleaded from the fire quenched

With flask of gold as said, he returned

I begged for the whole, as he stared with content

But only three fingers poured he in a glass

He said it's all you need for it's all you've spent

And once again my thirst did pass.

He said your thirst is small and this will do

But as you grow, your thirst will too

When you thirst, there shall I be

With flask of gold for you from me

Onward I pressed in search of my goal

While my throat grew dry as a dune

My journey began to take a great toll

I prayed to see the golden flask soon

As twice before said would he

And twice before he did

Poured from his flask a glass for me

And from my throat my thirst was rid

He said your thirst is small and this will do

But as you grow, your thirst will too

When you thirst, there shall I be

With flask of gold for you from me

Many more times came my thirst

And many more times did he

But just like the last was just like the first

Never the whole did he pour for me

Until the day my throat was parched

More so than had ever been

For now he said my throat was scorched

And the whole he gave me to take within

I drank from the flask then drank even more

But the flask did never run dry

The flask he gave me to keep evermore

And my thirst I bid forever good-bye
