The Way We Relate

True to who we really are...

You shifted something in me today

In the way you conveyed your desire.

You portrayed such authenticity it helped me see

The story created,

These “rules” so dictated on how we ‘may’ relate is passe.

It’s time to break away from this pattern

To recognize it’s the way we relay what we have to say

It’s in the grey of the day-to-day we get to play

In the interactions we dismiss,

the ones we throw away.

Or rather, which we suppress instead of confess.

Much less speak boldly for fear we might be dispossessed.

And yet...

If we would just address that which is oppressed,

Would reassess the power we hold to express.

Would repossess the success of openness.

Yes,

If we would just, tenaciously, audaciously be

Authentically you and authentically me

Living in integrity, then we could be free

Freed from these chains of expectation

From the causation of frustration,

This mistranslation of narration

But this can only be if we agree to speak openly

To stop the projection and pause for reflection

To actually listen before forming an opinion

Giving permission and thus creating the condition

In which we can do more than just survive,

But thrive and be alive

True to who we really are.

So with this, I declare to adhere to my purest expression

And I ask the question

If you too will promise to be you through and through

Because honestly,

That is who I really want to see.

A display case, a simple space, a stage.

Upon which written works of art are shared.

...A soul laid bare.
