The Walk for Morning Meds

Mandatory peace

Before a word is spoken

thoughts penetrate the morning cold

centering myself in this space

while snow falls from invisible places in the sky.

Discipline and training of oneself is the ultimate achievement

but there are minds strewn all over the place.

Broken,

crushed and bloody.

Reminders of what failure brings.

Those scenes were not a part of my instruction

and now I see the compassion of my teacher.

Gentle entreaty and example.

Persistence.

Childlike trust did not falter.

What I would give for that faith now

as I place one foot and then another painstakingly before me.

Tentative steps on the path,

exposed and vulnerable

but focused as flinted born fire.

Dawn meditations will not be missed

as their essence takes hold to shape a new day.
