The Tree

A Poem from “Wandering”

Amidst an ever-changing landscape stands an ever-lasting tree-

Who has long since been forgotten and not a soul will come to see-

The eve of howling winds did come and weaker wood did fall-

Though parts of it were whisked away, proudly it continued to stand tall-

O’er the course of many moons new life upon it bloomed and thrived-

Yet despite its every effort to provide were unable to survive-

The lightning came and struck the ground found dry and bare from Summers air-

And while flames grew hot and spread their wings it looked outward with despair-

For what had once surrounded it was now ashes with no place to rest their head-

And what was full and lush for years unknown now silently seemed dead-

The birds no longer woke its rest-

Though the sun would often rise-

The moon would follow hitherto after the gradual decline-

The color that once filled it’s view now filled its sight with grey-

It stood alone with nothing left to occupy its day-

While the rain of wetter seasons came and would only say hello,

It understood that what it can’t see now was happening below-

So patiently it waited as new life began to grow-

Thus the natural course of life unfurled was observed by only one-

Who could not properly convey the good that had been done-

It stood the test of time elapsed and will forever do it well-

But bears in mind a story that it can’t quite seem to tell.

I knew a tree like this and I can still see the woods that I walked through years ago.

Life um finds a way. Love the imagery, speaking as a fellow nature addict and someone who can't walk past a tree without thinking about how to describe it
