Are you the straw that breaks it all?
****
You blow your cool with someone.
Get inpatient.
Be unkind.
Unsympathetic
Rude
Outright nasty
****
But do you know what they are going through?
****
Are they on the verge of a meltdown
Barely hanging on
Reaching out for someone
Needing to not feel so alone
Wanting a break from their burden
Or simply to know someone else understands
That someone cares
That someone notices
To gain reassurance that they would be missed
That they have a purpose
That the void of their absence would matter
****
What if...
That person you just snapped down
Belittled because they irritated you
With their imperfect journey
Trying to stay tethered to their lives
For one more day, hour, or minute
What if, as they totter on the brink of self-destruction
Your unkind, thoughtlessness was too much
****
What if you are the straw that breaks it all....
Could you live with that?
Be kind... always
