The Modern Emotion

Surprise surprise, the world made me angry

Evolving from miraculous to habitual,

we scroll until our fingers are on the edge of blood.

Numb to the existence of others,

empathy fades into the darkness of a bright screen.

Existence is meant for so much more,

than the consistent burn of red emotion.

But time is passed in the vacuum tunnel,

of searching for fuel.

A unique ache grows in your chest,

as your hopes are smashed to crumbs each day.

Everyone’s search for their fuel,

becomes your red, never-ending flame.

Desperation becomes your internal waterfall,

and somehow the fire and water exist as one.

The waterfall becomes tears for the absence of effort,

the red becomes quakes for the anger with an iron grip.

You beg for the relief of golden change,

but it’s caught in the cracks hidden behind glass.

So instead you continue to drown in your water and red,

and you continue to breathe through the pain.

Because breathing is freeing,

an ironic escape from your own searching tunnel.

In the end, at least you know that your drowning,

prevents another from being engulfed.
