The Means and the End

Call me Moana, because I'm more of the sea-faring type

Some say life is a parade,

I say it’s a sea,

Because parades will always come to an end,

But there’s no end in sight for me.

Life is not a celebration,

It’s more of a full-time school,

Learning the ins and outs of existence,

The nuance of every small rule.

When a parade passes me by,

I see everyone in their place,

Assuredly marching forward,

Confidence full on every face.

On the sea there are ups and downs,

Highs and lows and calm and storm,

Always searching for a waypoint,

A star that I can call home.

A parade is the means,

It can never be the end,

Life is about the journey too,

But there’s always ‘new’ around every bend.

The “end” is something parades can’t reach,

But it’s the someone I’m meant to be.

Who I am is not in the celebration,

It’s in the journey on the sea.
