The Matter of Eve

She started it all, didn't she?

do you ever think of her,

that first woman to walk the soil,

the one who birthed realms

after being thrown from paradise?

do you ever wonder how it hurt

to be tossed by a golden seraph,

her belly swollen with child,

her lips still stained by an apple?

do you ever see in her struggle

the rue of women everywhere,

always blamed for men's choices,

while just holding out a hand?

do you ever stop and ponder

how her strain came to be,

a mother without glory,

a girl without a home?

do you ever think of her,

the one who birthed it all,

her name cursed by history,

all for just one mistake?
