Stretched between here and eternity
rests my brief existence.
Completely unnoticed by the cosmos.
Of what consequence does my breathing exert?
What does my presence here and now mean?
What meaning compared to the life of a star. Spinning endlessly for billions of years.
Will my existing now cause some unseen events days or decades away?
Nudged perhaps by some simple act.
A simple act of kindness causing a ripple across the fabric of time.
Growing larger as it flows outward.
Even the planting of a tree today
shading some future person as they pause to rest.
What weight today do our actions or inactions carry
for the future of humanity?

The Business of Nature
Dew drops reflected the light of the sun. The inhabitants of Whispering Woods woke up to the golden droplets of water on the leaves of the flora. The oaks particularly enjoyed the light and the maples did, too. Happiness enveloped all who lived there, even the rocks that cried out in the night delighted in the morning.
