I devoured a PBJ,
As I enjoyed the peaceful view,
When we’re talking memories,
I recall a few,
From caramel candies, glasses of milk, fishing rods, and a small beach,
To decks of cards, holidays, pews and psalms to preach,
Where you were to use your manners, taught good grammar, and cuss words were suck, hate, or ain’t,
In a chilly basement, blankets of yarn, and amazing art grandma would paint,
Watching American Idol, eating fruit salad, and intense games like gin rummy,
To chowing Uncle’s lamb chops, funnies with grand pops, and a morning Flinstone gummy,
Pinecones, Better Made chips and great uncle’s apple tree,
To black and white photo, watch Gollum and Frodo, and a cool Detroit Lion Tee,
Where loving was easy,
The air was breezy,
And loving was simple to do,
But a life lesson that you’d think is depressing, unfortunately, came to be true,
That good things are ending, though great things are pending,
Misfortune may still find you,
With goodbyes you couldn’t say on these unsavory days were far more gray than blue,
But you don’t want pity, though it is shitty, after all you’ve been through,
Remind yourself, life has just started,
Though loved ones departed,
It’s more simple to go on with strength like glue,
So with the gift my mind, I’ll never leave behind the wonderful memories I take,
From my favorite happy place, with a grin on my face, reminiscing the house on the lake.
