The Girl and Her Shadow

A Song of Loss

The girl, she stood there in her room,

eyes cast down towards the ground,

she knows that shadows don't make a sound,

but her shadow was not there.

She sang for a while, what a melancholy sound,

and time stood still for the girl,

she felt that someone should be around

but her shadow was not there.

Out of the window she gazed,

onto a sunshiny day, she frowned,

because her shadow was not there.

When she wept,

not one could hear a sound,

wishing something, somewhere could be found,

but her shadow was not there.

Those four bare walls came closing in,

she sat, and she waited in that place,

desperately searching for a face,

but still her shadow was not there.

As the days fled by,

she refused to cry,

she felt as lonely as the wind,

floating on the edge of reality,

wishing that someone would set her free...

...but her shadow was not there.
