"Morning Light" by Leonid Afremov
Time marches onward, heedless of our Hopes
That Change can be forestalled by earnest Hearts
That cling to joys like sailors onto ropes
As waves attempt to tear their ships apart.
Our ships sail on, they have not broken yet;
We ride the swells as optimistic friends,
Eyes on the skyline as we all forget
The last time Always had an unseen end.
We say Forever, pledge to always stay,
Yet even as the ship sails stead’ly on,
We drift apart and go our separate ways,
Defenseless as the night before the Dawn.
For Always and Forever do not last;
All Present Joys are doomed to fade to Past.
