The Dance
I stand on a bridge in the dark,
And listen to the water below
While starlight flickers high above,
And the dance begins to slow.
I stand here in the middle
Between what was and is to be
And wonder which way to waltz
When you were the rhythm in me.
The music falls to silence
Spare the rush of reeds;
And all my body feels
Is my heart in rapid beats.
Only breath remains
In the fading of the night
And your memory is dancing
In the new dawn light.
I dance along the railing,
Where the morning glories bloom,
And follow it to daybreak
To leave behind my gloom.
