He has already won.

Breathe
as the world breathes.
Stand defiant in the hail
only to fall in the flood.
Hear them bicker
hands pressed on ears
like difficult children
who don’t yet realise
that the deaf still feel the heat.
Inescapable, it seeps into bones
Cracks in their faces, and books.
It licks their words
tilting its head and grinning!
A Climate Cheshire Cat
and he is not done.
Swiftly taking up each juicy morsel
until only dry bones remain.
“Oh, you think you can stop me?”
Like a joke that flew over the heads
of people black to white and all in between,
He laughs. He has won.
