The Change in Perspective

Makes a difference

He once lived in the past of evolution,

Riding his ideas to the perfection of day’s end,

Fumbling along in his wake, learning as he lived,

Confusion following, straying with foe or friend,

But one day he woke to a blessing in disguise,

Discovering the man he was destined to become,

A man of integrity, built into extreme happiness,

An honest-to-goodness saviour to some.

He began his days of sacrifice and assistance,

Until a smile graced his face,

The world began to brighten as the darkness ended,

And the sun rose over the horizon at his pace.

He now holds a hand of welcome,

Extending it to the lonely, the sad and the lame,

He talks the talk, walks the walk,

And searches out their pain.

Nothing is too much trouble,

They’ve only to find the courage to ask,

He’ll search out a welcoming solution,

And set himself to the task.

Hold tight, he’s now heading your way,

Watch as the light follows along within his wake,

He’ll turn your life upside down and inside out,

Resolving problems, ditching issues and whatever else it’ll take.

He understands the concept of living in the darkness,

He alone, spent time there for many horrific years,

Sobbing into his nightmares, distraught a best friend,

One dissolving of happiness and leaving behind his fears.

Until that day he awakened on the brink of a morning sunrise,

When life took a turn for the better, much to his relief,

He took the extended opportunities,

And changed his deepest belief.

Now his life is finally worth living,

He looks forward to the dawning of each new day,

Spending his hours helping others,

Slowly one by one, he’s helping to make the world okay.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
