Stone to Dust

The journey of Sisyphus’ stone
shoved with all might
until will breaks, and
the stone disintegrates
into gravel, then sand,
lining the hillside's
well-worn path
with dust.
•
when walked past,
it brushes into swirling fog
Ardent mirage:
a flamenco dancer
blown in the wind, whistling
an Andalusian song, faint illusions
of a homebound ship, peering
atop the harbor’s highest fortress
toward an infinite horizon
•
just as tears crystallize
in a salty sea breeze,
a melody no longer recalled,
wails lost in
colossal castle walls—
•
the dust settles
•
but stays with you
at the bottom of your shoe.
