Spiraling

Snapshot of my Mind

I open my eyes to darkness.

It's not the darkness of nighttime,

But the darkness of a dungeon, with no light.

Afraid, I reach out only to meet a cold wall.

I turn left,

Wall.

Left again,

Wall.

Left again,

Wall.

I crouch...

Wall.

Wall.

Wall.

Wall.

I stretch...

Wall.

Wall.

Wall.

Wall.

There is no place for me to go.

I scream, "HELLO?!?"

No answers.

Heart Races.

Skin Warms.

Chest tightens.

Can't breathe.

Gasping...I scream, "Hello?!? Anyone! Help!"

Can't focus,

Can't breathe,

Heart Races.

I close my eyes.

Clench tight.

Count

5...

Inhale.

Exhale.

4...

Mind eases.

Heart rate slows

3...

Inhale.

Exhale.

2...

Slow. Deep. Breaths.

1...

Crisis averted.

This time.

Fucking panic attack.
