Snakes In The Grass
Playing Dead To Bite You In The End
You feed they take
You provide comfort they sleep
They won't bite after being handled with care
They flicker their tongue with truth or dare
They slither and glide with smiles and glee
Their heads raise with alarm
"Excuse Me?"
They strike with venom to keep you numb they tell their snake friends what they've done.
I fed, watered, and breathed life into you
One disappointing turn, and now we're through
Your bite was more potent than your words
With no regret in your eyes
No apologies on your tongue
You slither away, leaving me where I stand
My gut tells me not to trust you again
You see, snakes are docile creatures, sometimes wanting love and affection
Closed off permanently on the defense
So caught up in their ego they don't care who they hurt or offend
They hide their triggers with poison, sometimes clueless about who they are
No matter how pretty a snake may look
A snake is still a snake
Willing to strike by any means necessary
