She Went Home
Home is where you'll see her once more
Death seems so cruel;
An unrelenting force that wipes the slate of life clean without a second thought.
When you lost her,
It felt as though you lost it all and forgot every lesson she had ever taught.
But no longer shall you weep,
Or be all-consumed by the grief which pulls you under,
For you shall rise up knowing,
A truth, a lesson, a wonder.
Know that,
She is not gone forever,
But merely returned to the place in which she came,
A place you’ll one day be together.
But until that day comes:
Love her,
Not just in those small moments when you feel truly alive,
But in every crevice in between.
Remember her,
Not just when the smell of cherry blossom fills your nostrils,
Or when her favourite song dances through the speakers of your car,
But in every moment that has not yet been.
Cherish her,
Not just when you tell your children of her legacy,
But in every drop of life that is serene.
And in those moments of empty silence,
Which she used to fill with the soothing sound of her voice,
Take a breath,
Wipe your tears,
And rejoice.
For even though you long to hold her once more and embrace her,
You’ll love, remember, and cherish her in every moment with a poem,
And find comfort knowing that death is not life’s eraser,
But rather, the carriage that took her home.
