When you are intimate with another
Is it through sex or communication,
I personally think it’s not through sex
As conversation is the foundation.
***
Don’t get me wrong there are times
That we’ll communicate through sex,
But that is an exception to the rule
Because after sex, what comes next?
***
If I decide to give you my body today
There is no guarantee of intimacy,
Tomorrow I can take my body away
You are left with no little intricacies.
***
However, if I give you part of my mind
When we discuss, listen and debate,
You’ll forever hold a genuine part of me
It can’t be returned, it’s way too late.
***
My mind and I are consistently intimate
And if I was to choose to share with you,
You’ll own those very thoughts of mine
No intimacy in wham bam thank you too.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
